BCSO Dedicates Annex Building to Former Coroner Bill Salisbury

L to R: Bill Salisbury and Sheriff Duane Lewis

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Berkeley County Sheriff S. Duane Lewis dedicated the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Annex to former Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury on Friday.

Dozens of friends and family members gathered at the Annex to see the fitting tribute to someone who sacrificed so much for this county.

According to Sheriff Duane Lewis, Salisbury is an outstanding volunteer and public servant to Berkeley County. He has seen families through their darkest moments and provided them with closure.

Before the building became part of the sheriff’s office, it served for many years as the home of the Berkeley County Rescue Squad before it disbanded in July 2017. Salisbury had served as a member of the rescue squad for more than 50 years. For the last several years, he had served as the organization’s chief.

Bill Salisbury started as a volunteer with the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office in 1992 under former coroner Wade Arnette. In 1999, he went on the county payroll as a part-time crime scene technician/deputy coroner.
In 2003, he was promoted to chief deputy coroner under the late Glenn Rhoad. In 2011, he was elected coroner.
