BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–The South Carolina Board of Education has permanently revoked the education certificate of an ex-Berkeley County teacher who’s facing criminal charges involving child pornography.
Paul LaRue was hired by the Berkeley County School District (District) as a GED Math Preparation teacher at the Fishburne Education Center (School) in Hanahan for the 2018-19 school year.
On November 26, 2018, the Berkeley County School District fired LaRue as a result of his arrest for one felony count of sexual exploitation of a minor, 2nd degree, and nine felony counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, 3rd degree.
The arrest was the result of a police investigation of LaRueâs personal computer which revealed photographs of sexually explicit pictures of minor
children.
LaRueâs criminal charges are still pending, and he is currently out of jail awaiting trial.
LaRue has reportedly not made any attempts to contact the SCDE to request a hearing on the board’s decision.
He has over 12 years of teaching experience, according to the SCBE.
