GOOSE CREEK, S.C. – The Berkeley County School District is squashing rumors of an alleged “hit list” targeting students and faculty attending Sedgefield Middle School in Goose Creek.
“Both law enforcement and the BCSD Safety and Security Team have investigated the rumored threat and determined that it is not credible and there is no danger to the campus,” school officials posted via Facebook.
A second rumor circulating on social media also claimed that a student found in possession of a firearm last year is back on campus this year. School officials say that rumor is also not accurate.
“We take the safety and security of students very seriously and will always take every step necessary to ensure student safety,” according to a post by BCSD to concerned parents.
Staff at Sedgefield Middle School say they encourage students to report any concerns or things they may overhear to school administration and staff.
