BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – When the Berkeley Animal Center made an urgent plea to the community for temporary foster “fur-parents,” there were no shortage of volunteers.
“When we first asked for help, we had 60 cats and 45 dogs,” shelter staff stated via social media.
The shelter is now down to zero thanks to the generous help of Berkeley County residents who eagerly stepped up to the plate to help clear out the shelter ahead of Hurricane Dorian.
“We sent out over 100 animals into foster homes. That is what we call ‘Clearing the Shelter,'” the shelter posted on Facebook. “Big shout out to our volunteers who came and helped get the animals out, shuffled paperwork, help with storm prep and so much more.”
These foster ‘fur-parents’ were all provided with supplies and food to care for the pooch or cat temporarily in their care. The animals are expected to be in foster care for at least several days.
The animal shelter, which is located at 502 Cypress Gardens Rd. in Moncks Corner, is no longer accepting animals at the moment.
The shelter will remain closed until further notice.
