BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – As Hurricane Dorian’s heavy winds pound the Lowcountry Thursday morning, some folks in Berkeley County are being left without power.
So far, there are more than 21,000 without power.
As of 7:40 a.m., Berkeley Electric Cooperative is reporting that 16,194 customers are currently without power.
However, due to the current wind speeds, linemen are not able to begin repairing the down power lines.
“Winds remain above 35 mph, so crews are unable to begin restoration efforts,” the power company posted to social media. “Please bear with us as we ensure safe working conditions for our crews.”
Dominion Energy is reporting that 5,337 customers are currently in the dark.
“As soon as it’s safe, thousands of lineworkers and support staff will mobilize. And we aren’t stopping until everyone’s lights are back on,” officials for Dominion Energy stated.
Santee Cooper is reporting that 35 customers are currently without power.
According to Santee Cooper, mutual aid crews from Tennessee, Georgia and Florida have already arrived to help the power company in any restoration needs from Hurricane Dorian.
