CORDESVILLE, S.C. – Berkeley County coroner George Oliver has identified the person killed in a head-on crash on Monday in Cordesville.
According to Oliver, Marcelino Mendoza Ramos, 50, was killed in a two-vehicle collision Monday on Hwy. 402 near Alligator Rd.
Ramos, originally from Mexico, had been currently living in Moncks Corner.
Troopers with South Carolina Highway Patrol said the deadly accident occurred when Ramos, who was traveling in the westbound lane on Hwy. 402, lost control of his vehicle and then slid across the center line and struck a 2018 Chevrolet pickup traveling eastbound.
Ramos was ultimately killed, while the driver of the pickup was transported to a local hospital.
The other driver’s condition remains unknown.
SCHP officials said all involved were wearing seat belts, and they continue to investigate.
