GOOSE CREEK, S.C. – The Goose Creek Police Department was recently awarded several grants to help improve public safety within the city.
As of October 1, 2019, GCPD has been awarded three grants:
- A year two Police Traffic Safety Enforcement Officer – Highway Safety Grant ($72,182)
- A year three Impaired Driving Countermeasures Officer – Highway Safety Grant ($72,182)
- A year one Special DUI Prosecutor – Highway Safety Grant ($91,099).
The prosecutor grant will be used to hire a permanent full-time Special DUI Prosecutor to conduct all appropriate legal proceedings, review impaired driving cases made by officers, provide training to officers on impaired driving cases. According to officials, the goal of this grant is to improve public safety and prosecution of these cases.
The other two traffic grants will be used to focus on the enhancement of GCPD’s current traffic enforcement programs in an effort to directly reduce traffic collisions, fatalities, and injuries.
