HANAHAN, S.C. – Skeletal remains have been found deep in the woods of Westvaco Park, according to Hanahan Deputy Police Chief Michael Fowler.
“We were notified Friday around 5:30 p.m. that some citizens found what appeared to be skeletal remains,” stated Fowler.
Fowler stated that several bones were collected by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office.
The deputy chief added that first responders have no idea how long the remains have been there or if the bones belong to a man or woman.
The incident remains under investigation.
The park was the site of another startling find in 2011. That’s when North Charleston authorities located a burned body in the playground area of Westvaco Park.
North Charleston and Hanahan both share ownership of the park which underwent a name change approximately ten years go. Westvaco Park also goes by MWV-KapStone Park.
