BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – You may temporarily smell an odor around the Berkeley County landfill, off Oakley Road, as crews work to install new equipment, according to Berkeley County officials.
The odor should be gone by Wednesday afternoon, officials say.
They say a carbon scrubber is being used to eliminate the odor and absorb the hydrogen sulfide (H2S).
Crews are now installing a unit to help absorb a large amount of H2S before it reaches the scrubber. This will then extend the life of the scrubber.
“We apologize for the inconvenience and will continue to update you as the work continues,” government officials posted on Facebook.
