HANAHAN, S.C. – The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has identified the man struck in Hanahan’s train fatality.
On Nov. 25, 2019, at 5:35 p.m., Berkeley County Coroner George Oliver said his office was notified of a ‘train versus pedestrian fatality’ in Hanahan.
Once on scene, his staff identified John Scott, 62, as the pedestrian struck by a northbound freight train.
Scott was pronounced dead at the scene. His death has been ruled accidental.
Current Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) data shows that highway-rail grade crossing collisions and pedestrian trespass on tracks together account for over 95% of all railroad fatalities.
