Goose Creek Police Take Part In ‘Sober Or Slammer’

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. – Every day, almost 30 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes — that’s one person every 48 minutes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In an effort to reduce holiday DUIs and prevent accidents, injuries and even fatalities that often go along with drinking and driving, the Goose Creek Police Department is participating in the statewide “Sober or Slammer” campaign.

The campaign began on Dec. 13 and continues through Jan. 1. GCPD along with other state and local agencies will put an even stronger emphasis on DUI enforcement.

“We want every one of our residents, as well as the people that travel in and through our city, to have a safe holiday season,” the department said on social media. “So, when you are attending your holiday parties or just out enjoying dinner, if you are drinking alcoholic beverages, please have a designated driver or be prepared to call a rideshare such as Uber or Lyft.”

In every state, including South Carolina, it’s illegal to drive with a BAC of .08 or higher.
