GOOSE CREEK, S.C. – South Carolina Department of Revenue agents arrested a Berkeley County owner/operator of a trophy shop Tuesday and charged her with operating a business without a valid retail license.

Sherry Ann Edgin Hayes, 42, of Goose Creek, is the owner/operator of Low Country Plaques & Trophies of Summerville, SCDOR confirmed. According to her arrest warrant, the SCDOR revoked the business’ retail license in July 2018 but determined in December Hayes was still operating the business.

If convicted, Hayes faces a maximum penalty of $200 or 30 days in jail, or both. Murray is being held in the Hill-Finklea Detention Center pending a bond hearing.

“The SCDOR is committed to the fair administration of tax laws,” the agency said in a news release. “By taking enforcement action against noncompliant taxpayers, the Department seeks to prevent unfairly increasing the tax burden on those who do comply.”
