BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The numbers are in from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office’s participation in the statewide “Sober or Slammer” campaign.
The operation, which urged motorists not to drink and drive, launched Dec. 13, 2019 and ended Jan. 1, 2020.
During that timeframe, the Sheriff’s Office worked 18 different checkpoints across the county, resulting in the following statistics.
✔️23 miscellaneous arrests (drugs, driving under suspension, etc.)
✔️9 DUI arrests
✔️9 arrests of felony wanted subjects
✔️267 citations issued
In 2015, preliminary data shows 300 people were killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes in South Carolina, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
