BERKELEY COUNTY, SC – You’ve seen their reign of terror on the big screen and now residents in Cane Bay in Berkeley County have brought five of the most iconic horror movie characters to life.
Some neighbors got a good scare and had a good time watching the action for some early Halloween fun. It all started with a masked Michael Myers roaming the streets giving people the creeps.
“At the beginning of the month, I would walk down Cane Bay Boulevard and creepily stare at cars in the woods. Then, I invited my buddy Pennywise out the next time and it was a hit. Some people posted about it on the (neighborhood social media) page. I realized the only way to respond back to this without my identity being blown was to create a fake profile as ‘Michael Meyers for Cane Bay.’” said Michael Myers.
Soon enough Pennywise, Freddy Kruger, Jason Vorhees, and Chucky joined in making their way around the community and doing what they do best… terrifying people!
“I’m normally extremely terrified of clowns and dolls and people in masks, but I think 2020 wass great to have a little excitement and normalcy. again,” neighbor Kortney Oden said.
“It started out with one lady yelling at us into a huge sensation. You either love or us you hate us, but we have received an overwhelming response from the community,” said Pennywise.
They joined neighbors chillin’ like villains and hanging out.
“My neighbors love it! I was honestly surprised at how fast we blew up in such a short amount of time. It’s just great being able to watch parents request us to scare their children or people ask us to scare their spouses and friends,” said Chucky. “The adults seem to enjoy it a lot more than the children due for some reason,” he added with a laugh.
“I also think the kids were robbed of so much because of covid so why not come out of quarantine to hang out again. Bring some normalcy back to Cane Bay and these kids,” Jason Vorhees said.
The scene from “Nightmare in Cane Bay” was scary as the characters greeted people, were spotted swinging on the playground, rocking out garage band style, canoeing on the pond, and even roasting marshmallows.
Professional photographer Bre Harris found the guys on Facebook and fell victim. She says she did exactly what she was told, taking pictures of their spooky fun.
“Pennywise had it out for me,” she said. “Many neighbors go in droves on their golf carts along the trails to search for them each night. It’s nice to see everyone having so much fun.”
All was calm at Cane Bay Cutz when Franky Hernandez got paid a visit from the customers that he didn’t want on his bad side.
“I was terrified and honored at the same time. It’s rare to get paid a visit by all your childhood nightmares at once and instead of being the victim… I was in control of their fate,” said Hernandez jokingly.
However, he added that he was too terrified to charge for their cut and styles.
“Their approval was enough for me! Hopefully, I can stay on their ‘good’ side,” he added.
Staying true to character and safe during the pandemic, all five people stayed behind their masks all night, never revealing their true identities. When asked, ‘So, who are you?’ The five villains responded with an empty stare…
Michael Myers said, “People were excited and glad to have a little bit of horrific joy with what’s going on in the world currently. I feel like it brought our community closer as a whole, and that’s something to be excited about!”
