BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – A steady stream of Berkeley County voters showed up at the polls Tuesday in what some political analysts are calling the most important election of our lifetime.
In anticipation of long lines, some Berkeley County voters arrived to their polling locations 30 to 60 minutes before they officially opened at 7 a.m.
One voter told The Berkeley Observer she waited an hour and 15 minutes to vote after arriving at Metro North Church at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday morning in Goose Creek. Despite the long line, she said it kept moving, and she experienced no issues when it finally came time to vote.
“It was a pretty easy process,” she said.
Several people who voted at the Huger Fire Department said they were forced to wait longer than expected due to some small technical issues.
“They were having problems connecting to the internet/WiFi, so it stalled us in line for about an hour! But at least I got to vote,” one voter said.
“I went by there at 7:30 a.m., and the line was crazy long,” another Huger voter said.
Overall, voters told The Berkeley Observer voting went smoothly, and wait times were typically anywhere from five minutes to 30 minutes at the most- with the longest wait times right before or around the time that the polls opened.
“Was at Mevers at about 7:15 a.m. – and was out about 8:30 a.m. The line moved well and the process was smooth,” one voter said.
“Six minutes from the car, back to the car at College Park Elementary,” another voter said.
“Took less than 10 minutes at Berkeley Intermediate at 9:30 a.m.,” another voter said.
More than one-third of registered voters in Berkeley County have already cast their ballot early by mail or in-person.
