Help Berkeley County Deputies Make The Holidays Brighter For Local Soldiers

Berkeley County deputies are asking residents to fill a stocking with goodwill treats. Those stockings will then be delivered to local members of the military and veterans in need.

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is working hard to not only protect its citizens but also make the holidays a little brighter for the brave men and women defending our freedoms.

This year, the department’s community action team (CAT) is participating in “Santa for Soldiers,” a program by the nonprofit group, Towns4Troops.com. The organization’s mission is to enhance the lives and boost the morale of active duty warriors.

This year, travel restrictions will make it difficult, if not impossible, for local soldiers to spend the holidays with their families.

“We are here to make sure they know how much we appreciate them during these difficult times of isolation,” the sheriff’s office said via social media.

Deputies are asking residents to help them show local members of the military just how much the Berkeley County community appreciates their service.

To do that, deputies are asking residents to fill a stocking with goodwill treats. Suggested stocking stuffer ideas include:

  • Socks
  • Deodorant
  • Liquid body wash
  • Female personal care products
  • Foot powder
  • Q-tips
  • Baby wipes
  • Nail clippers

On Dec.7, from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., Cane Bay Cat will be out on the BCSO Polaris to collect the stockings from residents who live in the Cane Bay community. Simply text 843-325-8224, and deputies will respond to schedule a time for pick up.

“This year, you can take advantage of contactless porch pick up, or some great photo opportunities with us when we arrive,” the sheriff’s office said.

For residents who don’t live in Cane Bay, they can drop off their stockings at the following locations by Dec. 13:

  • Cane Bay Family YMCA
  • This Little Piggy Restaurant (Summerville)
  • Kings Express Pizza (Moncks Corner)
  • Four Seasons Lake House

The filled stockings will then be delivered to single soldiers, airmen, marines, sailors and coasties stationed at various locations throughout the Charleston area. A number of stockings and supplies will also be directed to veterans in need.
