SCHP: Moped Driver Dead Following Collision In Moncks Corner

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – A moped driver has died following a collision with another vehicle Tuesday night in Moncks Corner.

According to SCHP Master Trooper Brian Lee, the collision happened a 9:05 p.m. on on U.S. Highway 17A at Adrian Lane.

Lee said the driver of a 2008 Buick and the operator of a 2018 moped were both driving south on U.S. 17A when the driver of the Buick struck the moped’s rear.

The moped driver, who was not wearing a helmet, died as a result of the crash, troopers said.

The collision currently remains under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol with the assistance of the MAIT (Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team) team.

The driver of the Buick was wearing a seat belt, Lee added.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office will release the moped driver’s name pending notification of next of kin.
