BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Due to the coronavirus pandemic, South Carolina Chief Justice Beatty ordered Wednesday the suspension of all in-person summary court proceedings starting Monday, Jan. 11, until further notice.

“In light of the ongoing increase in COVID-19 cases throughout South Carolina, and the expectation by the medical community and experts that the number of positive cases will continue to increase in the near future, it is prudent to once again make changes to the operations of the summary courts for the protection of those who work within the courts, as well as those who use the courts,” the judge said in the order.

The order excludes bond hearings and emergency matters including, but not limited to, restraining orders, orders of protection and vacating of bench warrants.

If an in-person proceeding is held, attorneys, parties to the matter and any necessary witnesses must take direction from the clerk of court, or his or her designee, prior to entering the courtroom or hearing room.

For questions, residents can contact the following court locations:

  • Moncks Corner (all matters, including traffic court): 843-719-4050
  • Goose Creek (small claims matters only): 843-553-6099
