BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – A North Charleston police officer from Berkeley County is out of a job following a recent DUI arrest.

According to Lance Cpl. Tyler Tidwell with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, around 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, troopers responded to a vehicle collision on Seven Oaks Drive in Moncks Corner.

During the incident, Tidwell said the driver of a Chevrolet truck struck two parked vehicles.

The driver was ultimately identified as Edward Jerome Clemens Jr., 31, an officer with the North Charleston Police Department who lives in Moncks Corner. He was arrested for driving under the influence and booked into the Berkeley County detention center, troopers said.

During a separate incident that occurred the same day on Silver Moss Drive, police with the Moncks Corner Police Department said a witness told them that Clemen’s vehicle, a Chevy Silverado, drove off the roadway and hit her mailbox before leaving the scene. Video reportedly confirmed the incident. He was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, police said.

North Charleston police confirmed Clemens’ termination Wednesday. He had worked for the department for five years, according to NCPD Deputy Chief Scott Deckard.

Court records show Clemens was released from jail Wednesday on a personal recognizance bond. He is due back in court on March 9 at 10 a.m.
