BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – For the second time in three days, a former North Charleston police officer has been charged with driving under the influence.

Edward Jerome Clemens Jr., 31, of Moncks Corner had been released from jail Wednesday following Tuesday’s arrest for DUI.

However, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office inmate lookup, he is back behind bars as of Thursday for a separate traffic collision in Moncks Corner.

Records show that Clemens was booked into the Hill Finklea Detention Center in Moncks Corner around 6 p.m. Thursday. The South Carolina Highway Patrol was the arresting agency. He has been charged with DUI and driving under suspension.

His latest arrest stems from a collision near Mountain Pine Road in Berkeley County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Troopers said Clemens was driving a Chevy pickup truck and hit a Kia Forte with two people inside. No serious injuries were reported.

Just two days prior, Clemens was charged in connection with striking two parked vehicles on Seven Oaks Drive in Moncks Corner and also hitting a mailbox.

The North Charleston Police Department terminated Clemens from his job Wednesday.
