PINEVILLE, S.C. – Berkeley County deputies arrested a man Tuesday accused of shooting his friend in the foot for failure to pay back money he let him borrow.
Rene Victor Velazquez Alarcon, 22, has been charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature as well as possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Deputies said they responded to a home on Edgewater Drive in Pineville in reference to a shooting. Once on scene, they met with the victim and several witnesses.
According to the police report, the victim, a 23-year-old man, told deputies the shooting stemmed over him owing Velazquez Alarcon $100. While speaking to deputies, officers noticed that the victim had a blue towel wrapped around his foot with blood clearly visible on the towel.
“Upon removing the towel, I observed a gunshot wound to the top of his left foot and located an exit wound on the bottom of his foot near the back side of his heel. Due to the location of the injury, I applied rolled gauze to the wounds while applying pressure to the wounds while awaiting for EMS to arrive,” the deputy said in the police report.
Deputies said the victim told them that he borrowed money from his friend to pay some taxes.
“The victim stated he was confused as to why the subject shot him, as they are friends, he was not expecting it,” the police report reads.
The victim was ultimately transported to Trident Hospital in North Charleston.
Deputies later located the suspect at a home where his vehicle was spotted. The case remains under investigation.
