MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Let the chicken wars begin! Zaxby’s, KFC, Bojangles and Chic-fil-A in Moncks Corner are about to get a little friendly competition. Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen will celebrate its grand opening Thursday, June 17 at 9 a.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The first 100 people to arrive will be entered into a raffle to win free chicken every week for one year, according to a news release from the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce.
The new Popeyes is located at 460 N. Highway 52 in Moncks Corner.
The restaurant is owned and operated by the Rinna Restaurant Group (RRG), and the franchisees include Mark, Jane, and Alex Rinna.
The company started in 2000. The Moncks Corner location will be RRG’s 16th store, with ten in Augusta, GA and six in Charleston, SC.
This will be second Popeyes restaurant in Berkeley County. The company opened a Goose Creek location on St. James Avenue a few years ago.
Known for its rich Cajun and creole flavors, Popeyes originally started in 1972 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
