Old Santee Canal Park To Reopen Its Buildings June 21

COURTESTY: Old Santee Canal Park

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Call it a sign that things are slowly getting back to “normal.” More than a year after it closed its buildings, facilities, and picnic shelters to the public due to the coronavirus pandemic, Old Santee Canal Park plans to reopen them Monday, June 21. This includes the park’s popular canoe rentals.

The park’s grounds and trails never closed during the pandemic and still remain open.

Admission to the park will not be charged until July 1, according to park officials. For guests whose annual pass expired after March 2020, the park will add the remaining months to 2021. Guests will need to provide their expired pass as validation to receive a new one.

For guests who are unvaccinated, park officials are asking that they wear a mask inside the buildings.

Anyone with any questions can contact the park at [email protected] or 843-899-5200.

The park is located at 900 Stony Landing Rd. in Moncks Corner.

Opened to the public in 1989, the 195-acre park commemorates the building of the first true canal in America and showcases the area’s extensive history and habitat. Among its attractions are the Stony Landing House, built in 1843, and four miles of boardwalks that meander through the quiet backwaters of Biggin Creek and its surrounding swamp. The park’s centerpiece is its Interpretive Center that chronicles the area’s history as far back as 4000 B.C. Beyond its historical offerings, the park has become a popular destination for bird watchers, hikers, paddlers and other outdoor enthusiasts.
