MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Atlanta-based Branch Properties announce Thursday the official groundbreaking of Moncks Corner Marketplace, a forthcoming Publix Super Market-anchored shopping center in Moncks Corner.
The 75,267-square-foot development is slated for completion in June 2022, and will host a mix of retail, restaurant and service-oriented tenants. This milestone marks the second grocery-anchored shopping center in Branch’s development pipeline to break ground this month, with five others slated to deliver across the Southeast within the year.
Branch first announced the acquisition of 9.13 acres of land to build Moncks Corner Marketplace at the corner of U.S. Highway 52 and Cypress Gardens Road in January of this year. At the shopping center, Publix will occupy a 48,387-square-foot space, leaving 26,880 square feet of vacant space available for additional retail offerings. Branch is currently co-leasing the development alongside Coldwell Banker’s Tim Rowley.
“We are pleased to announce the groundbreaking of Moncks Corner Marketplace, which will soon serve one of the most rapidly growing submarkets of Charleston with a new Publix grocery store and essential retail offerings,” said Branch CIO Jesse Shannon. “This development is consistent with Branch’s mission to identify prosperous suburban markets where grocery-anchored shopping centers are needed and where our developments can be successful. We look forward to making additional tenant announcements soon.”
Moncks Corner is one of the fastest growing neighborhoods north of Charleston, with its population on track to increase by 4.59% annually. In March, Google announced plans for a $500-million expansion of its data center operations in Moncks Corner, set to bring around 10,000 jobs to the area.
Moncks Corner Marketplace will mark Branch’s second development in the state of South Carolina. The firm previously developed the Village at Sandhill Marketplace in Columbia. Currently, Branch has five other projects in its pipeline throughout the Southeast, including Perimeter Marketplace in Dunwoody, Ga; Hugh Howell Marketplace in Tucker, Ga; Summerhill Station in Southwest Atlanta, Ga; The Market at Hays Farm in Huntsville, Ala; and Merganser Commons at Dogwood Estates in Milton, Florida, all slated to open within the next year.
