HANAHAN, S.C. – Hanahan police lost a brave member of the team Friday morning following a lengthy illness. For the police department, K9 Jasmin was more than just a dog. She was a valuable member of the team, spending approximately six years keeping the Hanahan community safe from crime.
“We would ask for everyone to please keep K-9 Jasmin and her handler, Sergeant Patrick Callahan, in your prayers,” the department said via Facebook.
According to the police department, K9 Jasmin served the Hanahan community from 2013 until her retirement in 2019. Chief Dennis Turner said Jasmin played an integral part in locating illegal narcotics and violent suspects as well as building community relations while serving with the Hanahan Police Department.
Throughout her career and retirement, she was a valued member of our police family,” Chief Turner said.
From Hanahan Veterinary Clinic to McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation, her human counterparts stood by her side as she made her final journey. A blue sea of patrol units from the North Charleston Police Department, Charleston County Aviation Authority, Charleston Police Department and the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office assisted with last ride
“Out of all the dogs we have had, you were my favorite,” the chief said.
With her body draped in the American flag, officers gave one last salute as her remains were carried into the funeral home for final goodbyes. K9 Jasmin was clearly loved, valued and respected.
“On behalf of the City of Hanahan and the members of the Hanahan Police Department, we thank you for your service and bid you farewell,” Chief Turner said. “K9 Jasmin your watch is over, rest in peace warrior.”
