BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The community is invited to attend a memorial service to commemorate the legacy of Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion this Saturday, Feb. 26.
The event is hosted by the General Marion’s Brigade chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Col. Hezekiah Maham chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
The event will take place at 11 a.m. at Marion’s tomb at the site of Belle Isle Plantation on General Francis Marion Avenue in Pineville.
The event will include a flyover by the South Carolina Air National Guard, a wreath laying ceremony and feature guest speaker, Charles Baxley, with the S.C. Battleground Preservation Trust Artillery.
Marion, better known as the “Swamp Fox,” is considered one of the fathers of guerrilla and maneuver warfare.
The memorial service occurs annually around the time of Marion’s death – Feb. 27, 1795 – 227 years ago.
