CROSS, S.C. – The Cross community celebrated the completed renovations of Spiers Landing in Cross on Saturday.
Local leaders, elected officials and citizens joined to applaud the new, updated amenities at the site, as well as fellowship over food and a fun-filled kickball game between area firefighters and Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
“We are very excited about this reopening, and we can tell by the attendance today the community shares in our excitement. Though we work relentlessly to address infrastructure needs in our County daily, quality of life projects like Spiers Landing bring great value to the community. Special thanks to our dedicated County employees who went above and beyond to make this happen and the community volunteers who will help make this park all it can be,” said Berkeley County Supervisor Johnny Cribb.
According to the county, the majority of work on the Spiers Landing project was completed in-house by Berkeley County’s Roads & Bridges and Facilities & Grounds departments.
Project highlights include adding a half-mile walking path to the area; electrical and lighting upgrades; renovations to the parking lot, concession stand, and tennis courts; leveling of the baseball field and installation of new fencing around the field; installation of new dugouts; and much more.
“When businesses come together with government and communities, citizens’ lives are improved,” County Councilman Caldwell Pinckney (District 7) said.
