2022 SC Primary: Berkeley County Election Results Are In

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The polls are closed and the unofficial results are in for the Democratic and Republican primaries in Berkeley County and across the state.

Out of the 144,607 registered voters in Berkeley County, 26,386 (18.25 percent) cast their ballots in Tuesday’s primary, according to election officials.

With all 94 precincts reporting, here’s how Berkeley County voted in key local races:

Berkeley County Clerk of Court (Republican)

  • Leah Guerry Dupree – 52.02% (9,094 votes)
  • Lisa M Kerns – 47.98% (8,389 votes)

Berkeley County Coroner (Republican)

  • Darnell D. Hartwell – 53.42% (9,147 votes)
  • Danny Mazzell – 46.58% (7,976 votes)

Berkeley County Council District 4 (Republican)

  • Terry Hess – 29.09% (468 votes)
  • Tommy Newell – 70.91% (1,141 votes)

Berkeley County Council District 5 (Republican)

  • Chris Davenport – 49.76% (1,249 votes)
  • Amy Stern – 50.24% (1,261 votes)

Berkeley County Council District 6 (Republican)

  • Robert H Jeffcoat – 36.66% (1,474 votes)
  • Art Nichols – 15.54% (625 votes)
  • Marshall West – 47.80% (1,922)

Berkeley County District 8 (Republican)

  • Bill Conyers – 54.95% (838 votes)
  • Darrel Wadford – 45.05% (687 votes)

ADVISORY QUESTIONS:

Should people have the right to register with the political party of their choice when they register to vote?

  • Yes – 84.27% (15,357 votes)
  • No – 15.73% (2,866 votes)

Should candidates for local school boards be able to run as a candidate of the political party of their choice, just like candidates for other elected offices?

  • Yes – 76.30% (13,865 votes)
  • No – 15.73% (2,866 votes)

In a situation where there is more than one person responsible for damages in a lawsuit, do you support changing South Carolina law so that each person should pay damages based on that person’s actual share of fault?

  • Yes – 87.85% (15,900 votes)
  • No – 12.15% (2,199 votes)

At 10 a.m. on Thursday, the county board of canvassers will hold a hearing to determine the validity of all provisional ballots cast in the primaries.

On June 30, the county board of canvassers will also hold a hearing to determine the validity of all
provisional ballots cast in any necessary runoffs.

These hearings will be held at the Berkeley County Assembly Room 1003 Highway 52 Moncks Corner, SC 29461

Any necessary runoffs will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.
