ST. STEPHEN, S.C. – The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal house fire in St. Stephen.
The fire happened in the 100-block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in St. Stephen early Thursday morning, Chief Deputy Coroner Darnell Hartwell said.
Hartwell identified the victim as Ms. Johnnie Mae Cleaven, 65, of St. Stephen. An autopsy has been scheduled.
Officials told WCBD-TV that her two grandchildren were inside the home when the fire started, but they were able to get out.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known at the time of publication.
The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office, St. Stephen Police Department and SLED are investigating.
