ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. – A Moncks Corner man accused of fatally shooting two people and kidnapping a baby is in jail, according to the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Antonio Smalls, 45, of Moncks Corner has been charged with two counts of murder, two counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime and one count of kidnapping.
“This has just been a senseless, senseless act involving these victims who did nothing to this subject,” Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said in a news release. “As I said Thursday, you can expect me to turn loose my entire agency to find anyone who does something as heinous as this.”
Any bond consideration will be on a later date in circuit court.
On Wednesday around 11:30 p.m., Orangeburg County investigators said they responded to a home on Wesgar Avenue in Eutawville.
Family members at the scene told authorities that two relatives had been missing since earlier that day when they went to Charleston for a doctor’s appointment. They were last spotted with a 1-year-old baby.
Once on scene, investigators said they went inside the house and discovered the bodies of a man and woman: Raymond Brown, 62, of Eutawville and Jean Ann Brown, 66, of Cross.
After developing leads, deputies were able to track Smalls down in North Charleston, the sheriff said.
Deputies said they found the baby in an abandoned vehicle in St. George. He’d been taken from the home in Eutawville by Smalls. He’s since been reunited with family.
The sheriff did not reveal a motive for the shooting.
“This investigation is not over,” Ravenell said. “We’re not done yet.”
The relationship between the baby, the two victims and Smalls was not immediately known.
