BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – With Independence Day just a few weeks away, many Berkeley County residents are gearing up to celebrate the holiday with good food on the grill and, of course, fireworks.
A federal holiday since 1941, Independence Day commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence during the American Revolution. On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress declared the 13 American colonies free from British rule and independent, governing states.
For nearly 246 years now, the 4th of July has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with activities ranging from fireworks, parades and concerts to more casual family get-togethers.
For Berkeley County residents eager to see fireworks light up the night sky during that time, here are a few places to check out:
Moncks Corner
The town will host its 4th of July Celebration on Saturday, July 2 from 6 p.m to 10 p.m. at the Regional Recreation Complex, which is at 418 East Main St. in Moncks Corner. Admission and parking are free.
The event will include live music/DJ, face painters, balloon artists, food trucks, a vendor market and more!
The fireworks will begin around 9:30 p.m. They will be launched from Field 3 of the Regional Recreation Complex.
Guests are prohibited from bringing fireworks, alcohol or grills to the event. It is also best to leave pets at home, organizers advised.
Goose Creek
Goose Creek’s annual Fabulous Fourth in the Creek and fireworks display will take place on Monday, July 4 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Goose Creek Municipal Center.
The event will showcase live music, a variety of food vendors and free kids’ activities. Outside fireworks, sparklers or alcohol is prohibited.
Admission and parking are free. Parking is limited, so plan to carpool, according to organizers. Rain date: July 9.

Summerville will host its 2022 Fireworks and Freedom Fest on Monday, July 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Gahagan Park, which is at 515 W Boundary St. in Summerville.
