GOOSE CREEK, S.C. – Mayor Greg Habib joined Rep. Joe Daning on Monday to officially announce the construction of a new fire station for Goose Creek.
Rep. Daning helped secure $2.5 million from the state to help pay for the facility’s estimated $5.5 million cost, city officials said.
According to city officials, GCFD Fire Station IV will be located at the corner of 2nd Avenue and St. James Avenue in Carnes Crossroads.
The station will mean greater safety for residents by reducing fire response times for the city’s fastest-growing area, officials said.
The Daniel Island Company donated the land where the station will be built as part of a development agreement with the city.
Stewart Cooper Newell Architects has been hired to design the station, and a request for qualifications has been posted on the city’s website for a construction manager.
Groundbreaking is expected early next year, city officials said.
