MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – The YMCA of Greater Charleston announced plans Monday to sell the Berkeley County YMCA in Moncks Corner due to financial challenges.
“Currently, the Berkeley County YMCA is in need of substantial improvement which our organization is unable to provide,” Paul L. Stoney, YMCA of Greater Charleston President/CEO said in an email to members.
According to Stoney, arrangements have been made to grandfather all current YMCA members into the YMCA facility at Cane Bay for a term of one year effective on the closing date of the property.
“In addition, YMCA youth sports, fitness and other YMCA programming, will continue throughout the Berkeley County community in various satellite locations,” Stoney added.
Every effort will be made to provide current staff members an opportunity to continue their service with the YMCA of Greater Charleston, Stoney said.
The Berkeley County Family YMCA first opened in 1994. It is located at 210 Rembert C Dennis Blvd. in Moncks Corner.
