BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – A toddler from the Upstate who was seriously injured in a vehicle crash several days ago has died, according to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office. One of the drivers involved in the crash is now facing criminal charges.
Greyson Nash, 3, of Spartanburg, SC, was pronounced deceased on April 21 at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital from injuries he sustained in a traffic collision.
Patrick Montgomery, 48, of Ridgeville has been charged with one count of felony DUI involving death and one count of felony DUI involving great bodily injury.
The collision occurred on April 14, 2023, in the area of the 3100 block on State Road in Ridgeville in Berkeley County.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the toddler and the driver of a Hyundai SUV were traveling on Hwy. 176 near Lebanon Road as Montgomery traveled east on the same highway in a GMC pickup. The two vehicles managed to collide.
Montgomery was uninjured in the crash; however, the driver and 3-year-old old in the Hyundai SUV were transported to the hospital. The toddler died a week after the crash.
The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating.
