BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Raising funds and reducing overcrowding at Berkeley Animal Center are two major goals of this year’s third annual food truck rodeo hosted by Friends of Berkeley Animal Center. The event will take place Saturday, May 27 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 418 E. Main Street in Moncks Corner.
“By doing fundraisers like this, we not only involve the community in raising funds, we also give the community much-needed information about what we do in the ways of funding, heartworm treatment, TNVR (Trap, Neuter/Spay, Vaccinate, Return) program and locally reduced-cost immunizations,” explained Olivia Whitehurst, Friends of Berkeley Animal Center president.
“Without the community, our animal shelter would not be what it is today. It takes a full community to help run a county-funded and operated animal shelter,” she continued.
For those looking for a furry, four-legged friend, several rescue organizations will join Berkeley Animal Center for pet adoptions. Participating rescues include: Carolina Poodle Rescue, Dusty Tails Animal Rescue, Grateful Goldens of the Lowcountry, Libby & Maces Place.
“These rescues pull animals from our shelter daily. The more ways that we can get animals adopted out the faster we can empty our shelter,” Whitehurst said. “The animal shelter is daily overcrowded with animals. We get them in faster than we can adopt them out.”
Although Berkeley Animal Center is a no-kill shelter, Whitehurst said for it to maintain that status, animals must be moved into rescues or adopted.
“Without the community, our animal shelter would not be what it is today. It takes a full community to help run a county-funded and operated animal shelter,” she said.
During the food truck rodeo, there will be a variety of delicious food trucks to choose from, vendors for shopping, and fun activities for the kids. Attendees can also step right up to the dunk tank where they’ll find local politicians and celebrities to dunk! Crosswind Farms will also have a petting zoo at the event.
