GOOSE CREEK, S.C. – The Goose Creek Rural Fire Department is urging the community to be cautious if approached by a man claiming to sell fire helmets. Firefighters said it’s a scam.
“A person identifying himself as Archie Otis is attempting to sell fire helmets and is identifying himself as a member of our department,” GCRFD posted recently to Facebook.
Firefighters said he is not a member of the Goose Creek Rural Fire Department but is using GCRFD’s location as a pick-up point once people Venmo him money for the helmet.
According to GCRD, this person has been using social media and other forms of messaging to reach people.
“Please do not engage with this person. Unfortunately, this is a scam,” GCRFD warned.
