GOOSE CREEK, S.C. – A man has been arrested in connection with a recent vandalism at a church in Goose Creek.
According to the Goose Creek Police Department, officers arrested Joel Spears on Monday.
He is accused of damaging property last month at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, which is located at 510 Saint James Avenue in Goose Creek.
Police said several statues valued at nearly $3,000 were damaged. A United States of America flag, valued at $100, was also stolen.
At approximately 10:45 a.m. Monday, GCPD officers with the assistance of the Berkeley County Mental Health and Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office served an arrest warrant for Spears. He’s charged with malicious injury to real property.

During the arrest, police said Spears became combative. He now has additional charges pending for resisting arrest and throwing bodily fluids on law enforcement officers.
Police did not say what information led to his arrest. However, they recently released a photo of Spears caught on the church’s surveillance cameras in hopes that someone would recognize him and notify police.
