BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – A man with a rap sheet longer than a CVS receipt is facing more charges after running from deputies with three stolen guns, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
Recently, a Berkeley County deputy responded to Country Oaks Lane in the Wando area of Berkeley County, in reference to a theft from a motor vehicle.
The deputy met with the victim who stated she was able to deter the suspect by setting her car alarm off, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies said they then received another call about a suspicious person walking down Clements Ferry Road. The deputy patrolled the area and located Michael Jermaine Lockwood, Jr.
The deputy tried to make contact with Lockwood, but he fled into the woods. Deputies continued to heavily patrol the area and soon located Lockwood again. This time, he was taken into custody, according to BCSO.
When Lockwood was taken into custody, deputies said they noticed that he no longer had the property with him that he was seen with earlier.
Deputies began to search the wooden and muddy area Lockwood disappeared into and located a bag he was carrying and a hoodie he was seen in. Inside the bag, deputies located three guns – one of the them was confirmed to have been reported stolen that same morning in Berkeley County.
“No matter how many times we say it… people never learn. If it’s not yours, DON’T TOUCH IT! People work hard for their items and no one likes a thief,” the sheriff’s office posted to Facebook.
When deputies ran Lockwood’s information through Berkeley County dispatch, they said they found out he was prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition.
Berkeley County deputies said Lockwood has been arrested at least 14 times in South Carolina with many of his charges originating in Charleston County. Many of his charges are related to theft and property crimes.
