BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, along with Sheriff Duane Lewis, Inspector Dan Isgett, and Accreditation Manager Darleen Maloney-Martin, was recently awarded re-accreditation for South Carolina by the S.C. Law Enforcement Accreditation Council.
“This process is not an easy one, but I believe that participating in it, is extremely beneficial to both the community as well as the sheriff’s office. The community’s trust that we have is further enhanced by the accreditation process and that is beneficial to us all,” Sheriff Lewis said.
Since 1999, SCLEA has been recognized as a means of maintaining the highest standards of law enforcement accreditation.
The SCLEA accreditation program is a voluntary initiative for professional improvement, fashioned in ways that best meet local needs while simultaneously expressing commitment to professional law enforcement practices.
“State accreditation represents a strong commitment to professional excellence. The work displayed by your agency in attaining this prestigious award is indicative of strong leadership and strict adherence to adherence to standards,” Lewis said.
The sheriff’s office has maintained South Carolina state accreditation since 2009, as well as maintaining Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) national accreditation.
