GOOSE CREEK, S.C. – A series of bad behavior witnessed at Central Creek Park and discussed over social media has prompted a response from the Goose Creek Police Department.
“The police chief and the recreation director are aware of posts that are circulating in reference to vandalism at Central Creek Park. While vandalism has not been a huge issue, problems with teenagers has been,” GCPD posted to its official Facebook page.
Police are reminding guests that attendants work the park every day from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Any problems witnessed or experienced should be brought immediately to their attention.
“They wear green shirts with STAFF written on them. It will then be up to the attendant to decide if police intervention is required,” GCPD said.
If an officer is called out to the park, they will issue trespass warnings to any violators, contact parents and, if necessary, provide a ride home in the back of a patrol vehicle, according to the police department.
In addition, police said the child or teenager causing problems at the park will be prohibited from coming back.
“Parents, please talk to your children about their demeanor, attitude, and language. We have a beautiful park, and no one should be subjected to listening to teenagers using profanity, or bullying younger children off of equipment clearly made for smaller children,” GCPD stressed. “It is unfortunate that these topics even have to be discussed in this format, but clearly they do, so parents, please talk to your kids so that we won’t have to.”
