BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – For the month of June, Hill Finklea Detention Center inmates have collected more than 11,000 pounds of trash along highways and roads in Berkeley County, according to the sheriff’s office.
Here’s a breakdown of the amount of trash collected from the following areas:
- Black Tom Road – 1,650 pounds
- Highway 52 – 680 pounds
- College Park and North Main Street – 2,900 pounds
- Highway 52 and Highway 17 – 1,560 pounds
- Highway 6 and Highway 52 – 760 pounds
- Highway 6 and Ranger Drive – 1,200 pounds
- Old Highway 52 – 735 pounds
- Highway 52 in Goose Creek – 560 pounds
- Highway 52 in Moncks Corner – 675 pounds
- Cypress Gardens Road – 425 pounds
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office instituted the Litter Pick-Up Program in 2015. Prisoners who are classified as trustees volunteer to participate in this program.
Under the supervision of detention officers, the prisoners clean up trash from the sides and medians of public roadways and other public areas.
