BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – At 7:17 p.m. Saturday, a confirmed tornado was located near Jamestown, moving southeast at 25 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
Law enforcement confirmed the twister, the weather agency said. Reports of possible damage are unknown at this time.
A tornado warning, which means a tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar, for portions of Berkeley County ultimately expired at 7:30 p.m. The storm which prompted the warning has moved out of the area.
Berkeley County was one of three counties with tornado warnings issued by the National Weather Service on Saturday night. Portions of Georgetown County and Williamsburg County were also under a tornado warning.
A special weather statement has been issued for Moncks Corner, Bonneau Beach and Saint Stephen until 8 p.m. The National Weather Service reports that there is a threat of 55 mph winds.
To report severe weather, contact your nearest law enforcement agency. They will relay your report to the National Weather Service Charleston.
For Sunday, the NWS forecasts a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. Expect mostly cloudy skies, with a low around 75 and southwest winds 3 to 8 mph.
