MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – A new inclusive playground is in the works for Moncks Corner, Mayor Michael Lockliear announced Monday. The mayor said the town recently secured a $1 million grant from the state of South Carolina to build the playground at the Regional Recreation Complex.
According to town officials, Representative Sylleste Davis and Senator Larry Grooms, along with other members of the Berkeley County Delegation requested the funding for the playground, which will be built to serve children and adults of all abilities and be located near the Home Telcom Miracle Field.
“Making sure Moncks Corner serves the recreation needs of all our citizens, regardless of ability, has been so important for me and this will be such an amazing addition to our facilities and tie in well with the Miracle League Field,” said Mayor Michael Lockliear. “I can’t thank our delegation enough for their work to make this worthwhile project happen.”
The Regional Recreation Complex opened in 2015 and has over 50 acres of athletic opportunity, with four baseball fields, football & soccer fields, two basketball courts, and The Home Telecom Miracle League Field. The new inclusive playground is the next step in offering quality recreation opportunities to the Town’s citizens.

“In Moncks Corner, we are investing in our children and there is no better investment than that”, said Representative Sylleste Davis
The new playground will join and extend the existing playground at the recreation complex. In addition to playground equipment designed to serve those of all abilities and a barrier-free surface, the new playground will also feature bathrooms and shade structures.
Senator Larry Grooms said, “This park will bring excitement and joy to many. I congratulate Mayor Lockliear and the Town of Moncks Corner for making it happen.”
With the funding secured, the town will begin the design process and expects the construction to be completed in 2024.
