BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The driver of a car has died following a collision with two tractor-trailers early Tuesday morning, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The crash closed a portion of traffic for more than five hours as troopers investigated.

Trooper Nick Pye said the crash happened around 7:15 a.m. on Hwy. 17A near Willow Haven Lane near Moncks Corner.

Prior to the fatal crash, Pye said a 2021 Peterbilt tractor-trailer and a 2013 Volvo tractor-trailer were traveling south on Hwy. 17A as the driver of a 2012 Dodge sedan traveled north.

At some point, Pye said the driver of the Dodge sedan collided with the driver of the Piterbilt tractor-trailer before then colliding with the Volvo tractor-trailer.

The driver of the Volvo tractor-trailer was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries. The driver of the sedan died in the collision. The driver of the Peterbilt tractor-trailer was uninjured, Pye said.

No other details as to the cause of the collision were provided. Pye said the crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has not released the name of the driver killed in the crash.
