BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The family and friends of a young man fatally shot in his vehicle on Nexton Parkway desperately seek justice. Hunter Baum, 23, of Summerville was shot Aug. 15 and died a few days later from his injuries, according to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office.
“Hunter fought for his life for seven long days but, unfortunately, the damage was just too much for us to save him. We do not know who did this to our son,” Baum’s mother, Meredith Denise Kenyon, posted to Facebook.
In what became his final act of kindness and generosity, Kenyon said her son, an organ donor, gave the gift of life Saturday on what would have been his 24th birthday.
“We celebrate your birthday and the life you have chosen to give to your organ recipients,” Kenyon posted to social media. “You will live in my and so many others’ hearts forever, and not a day will pass that I won’t miss you. I’m proud of you son, for even in your death, you chose to give life to so many with your selfless gifts.”
According to Berkeley County Coroner Darnell Hartwell, his office and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office are investigating Baum’s death as a homicide.
To date, however, no arrests have been made in the case.
“We are determined to find who did this to our son and need your help in finding them. Hunter’s death will not go unpunished and if you have any information that can help capture his killer,” Kenyon said.
