In the six-second clip originally posted by TikTok user Kelly Green, heavy rains and winds pounded her windshield along the highway, making it difficult to drive. What wasn’t difficult to see was a car in front of her being effortlessly flipped over by the tornado just before 12:30 p.m.
No other damage has been reported, according to the National Weather Service.
According to multiple news reports, two people in the flipped-over car were transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.
According to Goose Creek Mayor Greg Habib, Gov. Henry McMaster called him after learning of the tornado touching down in the city.
“I appreciate Governor McMaster’s call just now. He had heard of the tornado in Goose Creek and just wanted to touch base to make sure I knew he and the state are available if we need anything during the storm,” Habibi posted to social media. “Having already spoken to Senator Scott, Congresswoman Mace, State Senator Adams, Representative Cox, Sheriff Lewis and Supervisor Cribb today; I am proud of the cooperation between all levels of government.”
“Today, together with Berkeley County and SCDOT, our staff has been clearing drainage, lowering ponds and securing debris to ensure the safest possible outcome,” the mayor continued. “Stay safe over the course of the storm. We continue to monitor the area and the storm and are prepared to respond to what may come. And please say a prayer for those injured by the tornado.”
Emergency first responders urge people to stay off the roads and wait until the storm passes to drive.
