CROSS, S.C. – Several local fishermen discovered a body floating in Lake Moultrie near the Diversion Canal in Cross on Sunday morning, according to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office.
Also found near the deceased victim was an unmanned kayak, Coroner Darnell Hartwell said.
The victim has been positively identified as Jason Mclemore, 54, from Goose Creek.
An autopsy has been scheduled to help determine the cause of death.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Marine Units, Central Berkeley Fire & Rescue, and Berkeley County EMS responded to the scene.
The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources are investigating.
