BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – A Berkeley County man is recovering from his injuries after he said his neighbor’s large dog bit him on the face and arms while on his property.
The dog attack happened Tuesday evening on Autumn Lane in the Windwood subdivision in Moncks Corner. EMS transported the victim to a nearby hospital following the encounter.
Prior to the attack, the victim’s wife told Berkeley County deputies that she and her husband were outside when they saw the dog on their property. They said it was not immediately aggressive towards them.
At some point, they heard a man calling for “Hank” the dog.

“She [the wife] called out to him [the owner], and he [the owner] asked if it was a pit bull,” the police report reads. “It was about this time the dog began attacking her husband.”
In an interview with WCBD-TV, the victim tried defending himself by punching the dog’s head.
“It did absolutely nothing. After he took me to the ground, I was just trying to cover my face at that point. That’s why my arms got so banged up. I really thought that was it,” he said.
Deputies said the owner did eventually get control of the dog but left sometime after EMS arrived on the scene.
Deputies said they made contact with the owner the next day, and he was cited with: animal at large, no rabies vaccination and public disturbance – animal attack.
The case remains under investigation.
