GOOSE CREEK, S.C. – Berkeley County’s largest emergency food pantry recently celebrated renovation to its facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. County and Goose Creek city officials attended the special occasion Nov. 17.
Helping Hands of Goose Creek was awarded $11,400 in Berkeley County Community Development Block Grant funds to upgrade its facility on Commerce Place.
“Helping Hands of Goose Creek understands it’s not just during the holidays that people need help. They give back to this county year-round. They understand that sometimes it takes a village, and when we come together to help each other, great things happen. That’s something to be proud of. That’s something I am proud to have in our community,” Berkeley County Councilwoman Amy Stern (District 5) said.
Helping Hands has been serving people in need for over thirty years. Started by the Goose Creek Clergy Association after Hurricane Hugo in 1989 to distribute emergency food, the nonprofit has distributed more than two million meals to people in need. To learn more about the agency, visit this link.
