MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Lights. Camera. Action! America’s Best Restaurants will film an upcoming episode at Live Oak Smokehouse in Moncks Corner in a few weeks.
America’s Best Restaurants, a national media and marketing company focusing on bringing attention to local, independently-owned restaurants, will bring its ABR roadshow to the restaurant on Dec. 11 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Popular menu items that may be featured on the episode include the burrito bomb, which is a choice of pulled pork or brisket with coleslaw, baked beans, and jalapenos in a tortilla and covered with hickory BBQ sauce and queso. The Family Feast is another fan favorite, which is five meats, three sides, and six dinner rolls. Housemade desserts include bread pudding and banana pudding, and the restaurant contracts with a local baker to make giant layer cakes that regularly sell out.
A film crew will also conduct and extensive on-camera interview with owner Lori Barger about the restaurant’s special place in the community. The episode will air extensively on social media channels at a later date.
Barger had never owned a restaurant before moving to Charleston, although she had previously been a server, bartender and manager after relocating to the area. She found a run-down former barbecue buffet restaurant with two small windows, vinyl flooring and mustard yellow walls, completely renovated it, and opened in the fall of 2021.
“Southern Comfort with a Modern Twist” is Live Oak Smokehouse’s tagline. The interior is warm yet rustic, with brick walls, ceiling fans and an upscale ambience.
Barger also operates a food truck and does a large catering service. She notes there are no other restaurants within 4.2 miles of hers, and although the restaurant came with a smoker which is what led them to be barbecue-forward, she offers other options and daily specials to keep her regulars coming back.
